Now everything is much more the same style. I’m also sort of boggled by how much nicer my art is in just a year and a half. Much cuter!

I got a new desk!

It came as a surprise– not a complete surprise, I ordered it and all– but yesterday, I got an email from the vendor saying someone would call me to arrange a drop-off time. Then, at about 7pm, someone rang my buzzer downstairs, saying it was UPS. I figured it was a package for someone else, and they just wanted to get inside, but no! They rang my doorbell. There was that brief moment where I was worried that maybe it was a serial killer who gets into apartments by saying they’re UPS, but it was not. It was actually UPS! With my desk!

The desk was in two boxes, and it was one of those things where it actually took longer to get the desk out of the boxes and all the packaging than it did to assemble the desk. But now it is assembled and in the corner of my apartment. And I actually DID manage to remember to use it, after I did this comic. Which is true.

I was sick today and left work in the afternoon to come home and nap and drink fluids. So much juice! But I almost forgot to post my comic!

On many Mondays, I make a very long trek out to Brooklyn to L Nichols’ home for a drawing night with a bunch of cartoonists. I started going because Margo and Darryl invited me to come, and I’ve been really enjoying it! We do drawing and talking and lately some of the group has been beginning to play D&D.

I can’t play D&D, because I have to leave pretty early if I want to get home in time, but I enjoy helping by making completely useless comments.

Yesterday, L was trying to decide on a good monster for a level 1 party. I suggested a lot of helpful things like a pumpkin and a toothbrush and finally I suggested an angry spoon.

Somehow, from angry spoon, Darryl come up with a new comic character: “Judgmental Dad Spoon.”

Then we got to discussing how when cartoonists get together, there are always all these really funny ideas that never get written down, because everyone is too busy working on their own thing. So I decided I would help by drawing Judgmental Dad Spoon.

This is the Beauty Llama!

I went to the Durham Fair this weekend, which is an agricultural fair in Connecticut. It’s a pretty big one, with lots of neat exhibits and an old-timey farm museum. Plus, really great fair food– there is a stand that serves Polish food, like pierogi and kielbasi and golabki and potato pancakes, and my mom and I always get a plate of everything to split. We look at the chickens and have been keeping a more serious list of which breeds we would like to get (So far, we like the Orpingtons, the Ameraucanas, Rhode Island Reds, and Plymouth Rocks best, I think).

Anyway, one of my secret stories is that I once tried to convince my parents to buy an alpaca farm. I love alpacas and llamas, and we always spend a lot of time looking at them at the fair.

This year, there was this one llama that we nicknamed the Beauty Llama. It barely moved, just stood in its pen at whatever angle was most advantageous to showing off its silhouette. If the people looking at it moved, the llama would move only enough to angle its body so that everyone looking would get the full and glorious effect of its beauty. Vainest. Llama. Ever. So I drew it.

So, yesterday, Rina asked me to come over to watch the TV show “Ghost Hunters” with her, because they were featuring a lighthouse where she and Brendan once stayed. We were meaning to draw as well. but mostly we drank wine and watched the pretty thunderstorm and Rina made some kickass soup.

But I did draw Rina looking out the lighthouse window! With part of the impromptu Lighthouse Rap she performed (the part I could remember enough to write down).

I keep having more stuff to post about than I actually get around to posting, boo. More later!
