"I know," Marcello replied. "Which is why I want him out before he can do any more damage."

"Dead is pretty far away," Scarlet pointed out, with a cautious look. "He's Blue's. I think I already warned you he's one of Blue's. They tend to be sneaky and dirty."

Marcello grimaced. "Random?" he asked, although it sounded as if he already knew the answer. "I suppose he's hard to predict?"

She nodded. "We're having trouble keeping track of his loyalties if it tells you anything. Proceed with caution."

Marcello nodded. "Any thoughts?" he asked. "On his loyalties or otherwise?"

"Not sure what to tell you that might be useful," she replied, with a shrug. "He's got it very clearly planted in his head that he's not here to hurt anyone, but I think he would, if it came down to it. I just don't think he knows he would yet. Once it happens, it's going to be easy."

"So he thinks he's doing the right thing while he runs around making a mess of things?" Marcello asked. "Wonderful. Exactly what I was hoping for. It's a good enough start. The ones who don't have ulterior motives are often worse than those who do, though."

"Oh, no," she said cheerily, "he knows he's doing the wrong thing. He just thinks you all have it coming."

"What, because he doesn't like us or because he thinks we're clueless gits?" Marcello asked curiously. "Either is fine."

"He thinks she's a clueless git," she said dryly. "His opinions on you are better left unspoken."
