They thought he would awake during the Unseelie Wars, and again during O'Niall's war, but he ne'er came." It was hard to say if Morgana was sad at his absence or relieved. "And Gwydion is a god, so it's hard to say if any more wisdom could improve him."

"Yes, but this fellow isn't exactly a warrior anymore, if he got rid of his valor," Cara said. "So I don't know how much good he would do in a war. Have you ever met a god?" she asked interestedly.

"No, never." She shook her head. "Have you?"

Cara shook her head. "No," she answered. "But you talk of your gods so confidently. As if you're certain of them. We don't have that where I'm from."

"They're gods," Morgana said. "We're not meant to be certain of them, they are so far above us. They're not to be understood."

"I've heard that before," Cara replied. "But your gods...are much more like people than ours. You have names...and answers. To the whys, if not the hows."

"I suppose it goes back to Fionn mac Cumhaill, who had all the wisdom in the world and it didn't make him happier," she said thoughtfully. "It would be terrible to know everything, and still not be able to do anything about it."

Cara nodded. "That's why I only try to learn things that have a purpose and an application," she agreed. "There's no point in knowing just for the same of knowing, if you can't do anything with it to help. You wouldn't want to know all the world's miseries. Or the secrets of your friends."

She nodded along with Cara. "Which is why I like my medicine. You can study it fore'er and ne'er come to the bottom of it, and it's always of use to someone."

"Especially when you can take medicine so much further than we can," Cara replied. "We...what you did for Jochy; we couldn't do that. We can only go so far as our own limitations will allow. We don't--- we don't have the ability to change anything but the purely physical, and even that, we're very limited."
