Seas Of Erin > Cecilia > To have the watch with nothing

James' workspace seemed to be in the midst of a re-arrangement. The normally ordered collections of medical oddities and anatomy samples were strewn about rather haphazardly, as the doctor paused and considered a certain arrangement of jars.

"No, he'll be able to bandage it up...just...whatever he says, don't let him look at your liver," Andre said to Declan, as he led the younger man into the sick bay. "Goddard? I've got a man with a cut finger; he might need a stitch or two?"

Declan rolled his eyes, squeezing his other hand over the wound, "I'm FINE, Romain. Really. I just need something to stop it up." Huffing a little, he looked around the sickbay and laid eyes on the man who would certainly would not be looking at his liver.
"You the medic? Looks like I'm the patient."

James nearly dropped a jar in his haste to examine his new patient. "You're bleeding," he said, in case Declan had not noticed this, and reached for the injured hand with the clamp currently in place of his own hand. "What'd you cut it on? How long ago? Who are you, anyway?"

Declan's eyes shot open wide when he saw the clamp, pulling his hand back with a start. After a moment he realized that the clamp was attatched to the other man and was...
Slightly less afraid.
"Some metal piece that got stuck in some rope, about ten minutes ago. And I'm Declan. Or Deck," the man said as he carefully held his hand out toward the medic's clamp-hand.

"He sailed under me on the last ship," Andre explained. "The one Judith stole, remember?"

"Not long, but it's a bit deep," James said, not appearing to notice Deck's discomfort. He produced a mostly-clean cloth with his other hand, and pressed it against the wound. "Should heal fine, I make sure it doesn't get infected. I'm James Goddard. James S. Goddard."
"I heard about that ship stealing thing," James told Andre. "He working for you again?"

"Better than having to amputate..." the man said, shrugging before a smirk crossed his face, "And, yeah, I'm working for him again. He's a good guy to work for."
He looked down at the cloth for a moment before nodding, "Nice to meet you, Mister Goddard." He pressed his hand against the cloth on the wound, grimacing some. At least it'd be a good scar. "You, ah... you been a medic a while?"

James kept putting pressure on the finger, but his grip tightened a bit more then was strictly necessary. "Nothing wrong with amputation," he said stiffly. "A man can go on to have a fully productive life after he's lost a lot more then a finger. What do you even need this finger for anyway?"
Posted by: Declan Callaghan May 24 2008, 01:32 AM
"Not sayin' you can't," the man backpedaled, realizing he'd said something stupid, "Just attatched to it, is all." he offered a kind of half-apologetic smile and winced a little at the tightened grip.
"And at times I've a really good love life and my finger's good for that. Hell, it's even better when I DON'T have a really good love life."
Posted by: James Goddard May 24 2008, 01:37 AM
"Nothing wrong with my love life," James said, clamp tightening further. "My love life is fine. I don't need any stupid fingers to have a love life."
Posted by: Declan Callaghan May 25 2008, 12:53 AM
Deck winced a bit, looking down at the clamp before holding up his other hand as if to calm the man, seeming to finally get that he'd said something offensive.
"Yeah, well, I can. I can see that I don't know a whole lot about what I'm talking about," the man rushed out, smiling awkwardly, "Apologies, mate."

James frowned at the man a moment longer, then looked back at the cut finger. "I'll need to clean it out," he said, apparently accepting Deck's apology. "Probably should put in a stitch or two. It's near impossible to keep something on your hand closed enough to heal, otherwise, when you're working."
