Seas Of Erin > Eurastad > will it all away

Andrew was sleeping peacefully. Seth was confined to his room for his own safety for now and his heir was out in the world, hopefully scoping out a particularly pretty bride to bring back. His weapon was out there somewhere, waiting for him.

Andrew slept without dreams. Dreams were passions and memories of the living, and Andrew was most certainly not alive.

He woke up, immediately, just after midnight. His fingers hurt. He twitched and curled and rubbed them but couldn't stop the pain as it spread up through his joints, finally moving into his wrists. Andrew laid still in bed, eyes wide, feeling the pain spread through him.

Then just as suddenly as it had come, it was gone.

This had happened before.

Andrew stood and walked over to a plush, comfortable sitting-chair by the window. He pulled the drapes so he could look out at the night sky and took a seat. Soon enough, his hands began to ache again. this time the ache spread like fire up through his arms and into his chest and Andrew sat very still, the feeling of a pulse that did not belong to him beating hard and heavy in the back of his mind.

And again, the pain was gone.

He sat quiet and still until the familiar beat had lulled itself back into quiet in the back of his mind, breathing slowly and carefully, willing that feeling to stay. When finally it was gone, he relaxed. But now he felt empty again. While that pain had beat through his fingers and that pulse had beat through his brain, he had felt almost alive again.

He spread his fingers out, examinign them. The perpetual dirt under his nails.

That heartbeat... Andrew wanted to feel it again. Feel a -real- heartbeat, not this phantom thing in his mind.

He sat, silent and still, until dawn, watching the stars fade into the grey of morning.
