Preferring to work outside, Alannis found a spot on the deck where she didn't think anyone would bother her and started laying out her tools and straightening the fabric that Key had given her. She hummed softly as she worked, concentrating on marking out the measurements for the shirt fabric.

"Gettin' a bit late t'be starting a new project, aye peach?" came the tailors voice, dripping with honey. Grumbling as he disentangled himself from his own work, the small man dropped from the platform above Alannis' head. With a heavy sounding thunk he plopped to the side of her, entirely without grace.
"Ugh. Bloody falls. Always end too fast. Has Captain seen fit to replace me awready?" he asked through gritted teeth, getting slowly to his feet and brushing off the knees of his pretty trousers. Tucker looked up from his primping briefly, studying her through his pained wince. "Sun's just in me eyes. Makin' me eyes water. I'm fine," he assured her.

Alannis narrowed her eyes at the word 'peach.' "I don't think so. I'm trying to get this done before the Captain gives me any real work." She explained. "You Willington? I'm Alannis Brey, your new helper, an' I'm not taking over from you, just helping out when you need a hand." She told him nicely.
She wasn't quite sure what to make of the other tailor, but from where she was sitting his pants looked nice, and since he'd probably made them himself, she had a bit of respect for him. "Sun's annoying when it gets in your eyes." She agreed.

"Oh. Helper?" Tuck asked, perking up considerably. His dark expression immediately lifted into a lopsided grin. "Well then, that changes things. Aye, I'm Willington. Tucker Willington, best damn tailor yer pretty little eyes'll ever see. Also, sail mender. And embroiderer, specializin' in pretty little flowers. And teensy ponies with wings and sometimes puppies and lobsters with wee little happy faces."
He paused.
"Hold on. I didn't know I was gettin' any helpers." He squinted at her, then glanced down at her work. His eyes widened and he stated, waving an accusatory finger at her, "I didn' order you t'do that!"

"Oh, I love embroidery." Alannis lied. "I've never been to good at it though, so maybe you could help me get better when you're not so terribly busy!"
"No, you didn't order me to, but I'm doing it because no one's given me any orders at all, and you were supposed to do it for Key quite a while ago." She said, trying not to sound too cross with him.

Key. Key. Where had he heard that-- 'Oh. Ye mean Ass Ears?" he asked once he managed to place the name, shrugging it off as he stuck his hands in his pockets, "If he asked me rather'n hee-hawin' I might have done something about it."
The tailor circled around behind her to peek over her shoulder. "You really hold yer needle like that?" he asked, leaning in close to see better. He pulled a needle from its sticking place in his shirt collar and held it out in his left hand for comparison. "Ain't that a pisser," he laughed, rolling his tiny instrument between his thumb and first finger. "Going t'have to teach you everything backwards, it looks like."

Alannis came very, very close to getting up and kicking him right then and there. "I'm sure he offered to pay you, like he did me, and he clearly needs new clothes, so you've done a horrible job as a tailor, not making them for him." She told the other tailor coldly. "And don't be mean about his ears." She furrowed her brow, "They're pretty and they certainly don't make him a donkey!"
She crossed her arms over her chest. "I've been sewing since I was five, I can learn anything just by watching, doesn't matter which hand I hold the needle in."

"Little cocky for a girl naught o' twenty, ain't you," the tailor noted nicely, entirely unphased by her outburst, "I think we'll get along better if ye give me a better chance'n that. I've got a lot I can teach you." He cleared his throat. "About sewin' and tailorin'. Best not write a man like me off so quickly."
Tuck stood up again, clasping his arms behind him and noisily cracking his back. "Moving right along, have ye gotten the grand tour yet? Know where yer stayin' and where I'm stayin' and the like?"

Alannis nodded. She had to get along with this man so she could spy on him. "I'm sorry, I was just a bit annoyed." She explained. "But I shouldn't have been so rude."
"I don't know where most everything is yet, except for the Captain's cabin and the sick bay, I've hardly seen the inside of the ship at all." She replied.

Tuck nodded. "Gather up yer things, then. I'll show you th'supply room and yer quarters and th'kitchen, though ye may not want t'eat there. Tell ye why later."
He stooped to help her fold the clothes back up again, but paused, the two corners clenched in his big hands. Puppy-like, the tailor tilted his head at the new girl. "Sick ward? You awright? Wouldn't want nothing t'happen to you on yer first day working."

"Thank you. I mean, I think, thank you... you're not Tuatha, right? An' I'm fine, I was just measuring Key for his clothes." She said, failing to keep from blushing.

"What? No I'm not--- ohhhh," he said, unable to conceal a smirk, "I see. Careful what ye get yerself into, Miss Brey. That's all I'll say on it, other'n maybe I should take over the pants-makin' from here."
The blonde man stood offering her his hand as he tucked Key's clothes under his arm. "I'm sure there'll be plenty more fer us to do, aye?"

"I didn't get into anything!" Alannis protested quickly. She took his hand and allowed herself up be pulled to a standing position. "I can carry the clothes, you know." She informed him, not wanting to sound like someone who ever needed help carrying things- like a girl might.

Tuck gave her a wink. "Now, I said I wouldn't say nothin' didn't I? No need t'get snippy."
He clasped her wrist and steadied her, patting her amiably on the shoulder. "Just this once, oblige me. I'll let ye carry whatever ye want once we've got you more... er... settled. I s'pose we'll see the supplies first so ye can try t'see how I got it arranged," he said, starting below deck.

"I'm not snippy, I just didn't get into anything." Alannis said again, feeling like she was already breaking her 'no talking about who I like' promise.
She only flinched away slightly when he patted her on the shoulder. "I'll oblige you. Especially since you're going to show me around, it would be wonderful to know where more supplies are. My pocket threat got eaten." She explained, following after him.
