Jochy was not in the most happy of places as he made his way back to the Verplichting. It was typical, wasn't it? The one time in years when he wanted to talk to her, she wasn't listening to any summons. And he didn't have access to the mirror either, not that he'd expect that to find her.

He had just hoped she would have listened.

Fuck.

He had no bloody clue how to deal with all this. No bloody clue. But he needed to talk to someone about it before he freaked out, and even if Andre didn't really like him that much anymore, it still felt safe to tell him.

So once aboard, he made his way to Andre's cabin, knocking on the door. "You in there Andre?" Or should he have said captain?

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 09:37 PM
As he knocked, the door opened suddenly, and the girl behind it went pale. "Ah. Jochy! Um. Papa's not here. I don't know where he is. Did you need something?"

Sylvie seemed uncharacteristically agitated.

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 09:41 PM
Well, Jochy looked as frazzled as she did, not really sure whether it was a good or a bad thing that Andre was not there. He'd have to explain a whole lot after all. "Didn't see Spider around either, so maybe they're off enjoying some privacy. Or the navy nabbed him since he works fir them now. Damn." Jochy cursed softly, then gave her a curious look.

"So what bee got stuck in yer pants then?"

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 09:43 PM
Sylvie shifted nervously in place. "What bee? I just didn't expect to walk right into you, is all. Was everybody all right last night? I heard the dogs."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 09:48 PM
Jochy gave her a thin smile, casually stretching out an arm to lean against the door jamb, incidentally blocking her if she would try to leave. "Yeah, everyone's alright. Will say that for the navy, they come complete with guns and swords so it worked out alright. Probably not over though, so I'd make sure I'm somewhere safe tonight."

He was looking at her rather thoughtfully, then smirked "So, what did you nab from in there?"

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 09:55 PM
Sylvie groaned, and looked heavenward. "I didn't nab anything," she said, running a hand through her hair in frustration. "Look. If I tell you something, can you swear not to tell Andre? I mean, not yet? He's going to find out the minute he goes into his cabin anyway, but I...I want to be clear of the ship before that."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:00 PM
"What the hell are you up to?" Jochy gave the girl a look, eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "If this is a prank I ain't having nothing to do with it." But he couldn't remember having seen her this upset before, usually Si was as cool as a cucumber.

"Okay Si. Spill the beans. I'll keep it quiet." At least from Andre, if there was something he really thought was wrong, he could always tell Spider, or do something about it himself.

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:05 PM
"I found someone who knows how to get back," Sylvie answered. "To England. And from there, I can get to Africa. But he wouldn't tell Andre how because he thinks Andre's in with the Aquitaine Navy, so the only way I've got is to go alone. And Andre would--" She threw her hands up. "You know Andre. But I'm already more than a month later than I told my grandfather I'd be there. And he's depending on me."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:10 PM
"Are yer alright with going alone then? I mean disregarding everything else and all..." Jochy sighed a bit, trying to see how serious she was. Probably utterly so, this being Sylvie and all.

"And I know Andre. And like it or not, he ain't alone anymore. Got Spider, and she's from around here." Jochy sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"He's gonna freak."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:13 PM
Sylvie gave Jochy a pained look. "I'll be fine," she promised. "I'm not a kid. I can take care of myself at least as well as Elaine did, and she managed to get out here alone. And I know the people I'm going with. At least, I know them enough that I don't think they'll let anything bad happen to me. I helped one of them when she got attacked by a dog. She'll look out for me."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:16 PM
"I know yer not a kid, hell, I was twelve when I ran away from home. And yer pretty much the single most self sufficient person I've ever met so... it ain't that. Guess I just..." He shot her a smile, and shrugged as he pulled his hand back.

"I'm gonna miss you. And worry. Just a bit."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:18 PM
Sylvie laughed. "You're not going to miss me," she informed him. "You're going to be too busy missing my sister. And the Countess. And Seth. Who are all conveniently on the same ship together, which is probably like a cross between a nightmare and a wet dream for you."

She smiled, and flicked at his hair. "But thanks. And I'll tell my grandfather you're the one who started teaching me."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:22 PM
"Hey, that ain't true, and besides they're all gonna be with Judes on the way back to the Erins, and I've chosen to stick with Andre. So there ain't gonna be either dreams or nightmares. Just lonely nights and work." Jochy managed to look both indignant, innocent and the suitably humble towards the end.

"And yeah, blame me for teaching you bad habits. Yer gonna realize the old man's probably gonna say that everything I said is crap and useless and fucked you up but good. Magi always do that, nothing ain't right unless it's just the way they do things."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:25 PM
Sylvie stuck her tongue out. "He's not a mage, he's a shaman," she retorted. "Much more easygoing. You going to make it through all those lonely nights?" she teased.

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:28 PM
"Believe it or not, I am gonna. I'm... Hell, I know people are laughing at me, but I am really planning to. She's worth it."

Jochy smirked a bit at himself, then shrugged. "I can't be sleeping around forever. Not if I fancy having someone that actually cares about me left in the end."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:33 PM
"Oh, they all care about you," Sylvie pointed out. "They're just mad as hell at you. I would be, too, if I were one of them. And I will seriously figure out how to castrate you with my brain if I ever hear about you doing anything to mess with my sister again."

She flashed him a smile. "Look. You want to do me a favor?"

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:35 PM
"Hey, they have the right to be mad, never argued against that. Only problem is that two of them are too bloody controlled about never showing it, or going cold and distant. Hell I'm glad that yer sister got a temper at least." That actually was very honest words, he was so very glad that was the case.

But at her words he did look more than a little bit suspicious. "A favour?" He raised one eyebrow, looking doubtful. "It's gonna land me in trouble, ennit?"

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:37 PM
Sylvie rolled her eyes. "No. I want to make sure someone knows where I am in case there's an emergency, and I don't want to give Andre the name of the people I'm with because he'll hunt 'em down."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:39 PM
"Alright, that I can do. No problem. If yer promise to haul my arse out of the fire it's gonna land in when he realizes that I knew who you were with all along if that emergency ever arrives."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:44 PM
"Fake using one of your tokens to divine it," Sylvie said. "Pretend it took you a lot of thought to come up with a way to do it." She stuck her tongue out. "Come on, you're smart."

She scratched her head. "Man's name is Mortmain; he's got a girl named Marie. Ship's called the Valkyrie. I just don't want Andre to know anything till I'm far enough away he can't try to get me back."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:47 PM
"Yer left him a letter or something in there then?" Jochy nodded back at the cabin, committing the names to memory. "And you know I ain't that smart at times..." Jochy chuckled and shrugged.

"Sounds weird coming from me, but I ain't too comfortable lying to Andre. But I'll make do, I don't want to piss the man off either." A thought struck him and he gave her a look. "Yer sure he knows a way? Lot of people can tell very pretty lies just to get someone on their ship. Once at sea there ain't no turning back."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:50 PM
"He's the one who brought Hartley here from England," Sylvie answered. "And he wasn't trying to get me onto his ship. He doesn't know I'm going to be there," she explained nicely.

And then she nodded. "I left him a letter. It says I found a ride back to Africa. I just-- he'll be fine after the shock. You know he will. It's not going to kill him. I just know I'm never going to get home if I have to rely on him, especially now that he's gone and signed on to the Navy."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 10:53 PM
"Well, yeah... he's got too tangled up in everybody, they keep yanking him this way and that I think. There's you, and Spider, and Curr and Elaine... the man's too responsible."

Jochy shot her a grin, tilting his head slightly "Oh yer gonna stow away? That's a bit risky, ennit? Most captains don't fancy that. Could get you into trouble,"

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 10:58 PM
"Exactly," Sylvie said. "And I don't want him to have to-- you know, mess up his plans because of me. He and Spider-- they need a rest. Time to themselves, not worrying about all of us. Spider deserves to see what it's like to just live with him. You know? And I can get where I need to be on my own. He doesn't need to be worrying about me. So it's one less thing."

She sighed, then bit her lip. "I know. But I'll be all right. Like I said, I met the man. And the woman. He's-- well, she wouldn't let him hurt me, and he's the sort to listen to his lady."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 11:06 PM
"Well, if there's another woman on the ship, at least it's a little better." Jochy still looked a bit doubtful, but it wasn't like he was going to dissuade her or anything. She was a competent young woman, and her arguments made sense. "But you'd better be alright. Because hell..." He gave her a look that was actually rather anguished. "I could fix you up with a little thing I have Elaine once, that'd let me know yer was in trouble if yer smashed it... but it ain't gonna work very well with the distances we're talking about here. Even if I knew something was wrong, I wouldn't be able to get there. So yer gonna be on yer own."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 11:09 PM
Sylvie smiled reassuringly. "Jochy, I'll be fine on my own. Promise. You want to worry if I am in trouble?" she asked. "I think you'd be better off not knowing."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 11:12 PM
"Yeah, that's why I ain't offering. Useless knowledge is the worst knowledge of all." Jochy reached out to ruffle her hair, because for a moment there she reminded him so much of Elaine.

"So, when yer get to Afrika, you already know yer grandfather there, right?"

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 11:14 PM
Sylvie shot Jochy a reassuring smile. "I know him," she answered. "I know him well. And he'll get word back to Andre, promise. He's got powerful magic."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 11:17 PM
"Good." Jochy actually grinned at her, because that had been the bit he had been most worried about. I mean doing a dangerous journey on unknown waters and crossing a few dimensions on the way, sure, no problem.

But meeting up with family you had never met before, -that- freaked him out.

"Best of luck to you then, you need anything before you go? Money?"

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 11:18 PM
Sylvie gave Jochy a dry look. "You don't have any money," she pointed out.

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 11:19 PM
"You are so wrong there." Jochy answered smugly.

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 11:20 PM
"What did you do?" Sylvie asked accusingly. "Rob a moneylender?"

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 11:26 PM
"No, played backup for Orrie when he exorcised Scarlet out of the body she got stuck in back in Lorraine. A bit of a favor for the girl in black, and he got payed rather handsomely for it. I got a percentage. The man's good at making money." Jochy sighed, shaking his head.

"it was pointed out to me that I really am not."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 11:27 PM
Sylvie laughed. "Well, not if you offer your pay to every destitute runaway you meet," she teased.

Then she gave him a more serious look. "Um. You want to give me some money, I'll owe you. Big."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 11:36 PM
"I ain't no charity, so no worries there. But yer need it more than I do. Seriously. And no owing." Jochy gave her a grin, because really... he didn't want to explain this.

It was too twisted and complicated to explain. But she felt like family. Both from Elaine's memories and... well, because he was in love with Elaine. This was her sister. Family was supposed to help each other out. But he knew that was going a bit further in things than anybody would fancy.

But still... that was what he felt. But it was easier to remain the asshole.

"Would probably end up spending it on useless shit otherwise." He shoved his hand down in one of the hidden pockets in his coat, pondering. He had still a few of the little jewels left, because they were so easy to transport. So it was a pretty safe bet to give her the gold that he had got from exchanging the rest, well, the bits he hadn't spent on buying El that stupid gift. So after just a moment's hesitation he pulled out the coins, holding them out to her.

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 11:41 PM
"Whoo," Sylvie whistled, as she accepted the coins, looked around, and hastily stuffed them into her boot. "You're a lifesaver, seriously. If I knew you weren't trying to be celibate, I'd offer you sex for that."

She flashed him a grin, then looked around, scratching her head. "Look. I better get going before anybody sees me. Letter to Andre's on the table. I'll have Grandpapa Moniade get in touch with him as soon as I land. It might not be for a few months, I don't know how direct a route I can get."

Posted by: Jochy Melechen Apr 14 2008, 11:45 PM
"If you'd ever offer sex for money, I'd slap you silly. That ain't somewhere you want to go. Trust me. It all seems so fine at the start but... no. Just no." Jochy shook his head, then sighed and gave her a look. "You should go. There's no telling when they'll be back." After a moment's hesitation he broke down and hugged her hard.

"Yer be safe, and I'll do my best to see to that Andre doesn't get an ulcer."

Posted by: Sylvie Romain Apr 14 2008, 11:48 PM
Sylvie grinned, standing on her tiptoes to hug him back. "I'm joking," she told him, snorting agreeable, and she gave him a good, hard squeeze. "Take care of everybody for me. Come visit me in Africa!" she told him, before she let him go and wriggled out of his arms. "Bye."

She started away, then turned back again. "Bye!" she repeated, before she ran at a sprint down the gang.
