"Well, that's sanity, Aly," Morgan replied with a laugh, smiling up at her sympathetically. "But, if it's worthy anything to you, it gets easier. Never gets actually easy, but it gets less hard." He patted her knee fondly then and shrugged. "Would you really want life to be easy, though? Never have any real chances to win if it's easy."

"Oh I would have loved it if life was easy" she complained. "I never wanted anything more than to just grow up and take over the throne after my mother, and then leave it to my daughter. I did not ask for all of this, it was thrust upon me!" She was whining now, and pouting as well but she did not care. "I should have listened to my mother and never picked him for a consort, perhaps things would have been different."

"Either that or it'd've been worse," offered Morgan with a shrug. "I mean, sure, Mal was pissing 'em off on his own, but it seems just as likely that they might have come, broke everything and then gone and broken everything where he was, too."

Morgan grimaced then as if the words he was about to say left a bad taste in his mouth. But he said them anyway. "Look, for whatever it's worth, you loved him. You guys loved each other... well, he loved you, anyway, with a kind of passion I'd love to have one day." He chuckled a bit then and smiled up at the woman. "You had to be happy while it lasted, hm?"
