 Let's Go to College!
When she entered the College, Barbara pulled the cloak tighter about herself and then gave up, considering she stood out like a sore thumb, if not a sore Oisin and the fact that you really couldn't hide from a bunch of Matt's. And with the number of children running about, Curr's. No, she corrected herself, Roan's. Instead she started to walk about, looking for something that would approxiamate a traveling circle.

 Re: Let's Go to College!
It wasn't long, what with the number of telepathic or empathic persons occupying the place, that someone noticed Barbara. A young boy who looked very much like Curr, only with a rosier, rounder face and no cowed, haunted look about him, picked himself up from where he was carefully building a pile of pebbles and approached her. "You're lost," he said politely. Two things were evident: one, that it was a statement of fact, not a question, and two, that he had spoken in perfect, unaccented German.

"I just haven't found what I'm looking for yet." Barbara replied, in German. Then she jolted to a stop and stared again at the boy. "You shouldn't know that tongue." She said, in her accented Common. "But you speak it very well." She paused, and considered. "Can you operate a circle?"

The child looked embarrassed. "Sorry," he replied--now in equally perfect and unaccented Common. "I won't do it again. But only adults are allowed to open the circle. Why do you need a circle? You're a tallfolk lady." He looked curious, but not frightened. "Circles don't go to places with tallfolk."

"Don't be sorry." Barbara said, perhaps a bit to sharply. "You spoke it beatifully." Then she smiled. "I am a tallfolk lady, but happens I need to go to a Tuatha place." She said simply. "That's why I need a circle. Do you think we could find an adult to open the circle?" Then she held out her hand. "I'm called Barbara."

The boy not only took her hand but gave her a small, rather gentlemanly nod. "I'm called Keelie," he replied. "You can ask my mistress. She's allowed." He looked a little doubtful. "We're supposed to tell somebody when there's strangers. But if you don't want anyone to know you were here you can go away now and I won't tell anybody."

"You looked like a Keelie." She replied, smiling. "I don't mind you telling, I am a stranger. I just need to use your circle. Could we go ask your mistress? Or anyone, really." She added, glancing over her shoulder without even thinking.

"Nobody's following you," he said easily, not even following her backward glance. "Nobody gets hurt on the College grounds. It's in the rules." He held out his hand. "She's inside. They're having morning meetings. They finish before midday meals. Are you hungry?"

"Ja, that would be nice. I didn't have time to eat this morning." She said, going red from his remark. "And that's good that's in your rules. Do you like it here?" She asked him. "Are there always new children coming here?"

He nodded. "There's a lot right now. Lots of us go home in spring, but then we come back. You don't have to stay all the time until you're older," he explained carefully. "Really old. Almost thirty." He started for an archway that had been carved almost at random with dozen of deep slash-marks and crosses that made up Tuathailli letters. "You may have to wait a little. We're not supposed to bother them in meeting until it's an emergency."
