 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
"Maybe I will," she shrilled back, "and then you'll be sorry!"
She walked through the doorway and slammed it shut behind her, without seeming to hear the worried little pot-girl who set aside her bowl and called after her: "Miss? Miss, that's the cheeseroom!"

 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
Marcello burst out laughing again. "Can someone get her mother?! he called, as he walked up to the door and leaned against it. "I already tried that!" he called through the door. "The freezing to death in the snow bit. It was very unpleasant."

 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
The worried-looking pot-girl bobbed her head to Marcello and sped away, her wooden shoes clacking across the cobbles.
Dareen, who had quickly realized her mistake, reversed direction. Realizing that Marcello was still hovering around outside, she hunched down stubbornly on the very cold marble floor, wrapped her arms around herself, and shivered. "I'd still rather die!" she shouted back at him.

"No, you don't," Marcello replied. "If you die, you don't get to do anything ever again. It's pretty much the only think you shouldn't rather. Everything else turns out all right one way or another."

"I don't care!" she called back. "You don't understand anything. Mr. Tumnus is the only person who loves me. I love him. I don't want to stay here, even if that is my mother."

"I do understand that," Marcello replied. "But you must understand that I'm not telling you what you must or must not do. It doesn't mean one thing or another to me if you stay or go. But I am going to make sure you make whatever decisions you make safely, without harming yourself or other people."

The maid returned, leading Morgana, who looked as if she had recovered herself meanwhile. "Gormlaith said she's gone to ground in the cheeseroom?" She tried the door, which did not give.

Marcello nodded, and stood back. "Dareen?" he called through the door. "Are you blocking the door?"

"I'm sorry, I thought you said you wouldn't tell me what to do." She rattled the inner lock. "Oops," she said, "it appears to be stuck."

 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
Morgana slouched and let out a tired groan. "It's all right. Her rump will get chill soon enough." She gave Marcello a desperate look. "Any luck at all?"
