 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
"If 'french' means incredibly greasy and stinky, then yes," she replied.

 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
Marcello laughed. "Well, that would be an accurate description. But France is a country. A tallfolk country, tallfolk like I am. But they're very snobby about their food there."

"Where are we now?" she asked. "Where is this?" She hesitated, then added, "There was this boy. And he said you had witches and snow."

"We do," Marcello replied. "Right now we're in a place called the Erins. It's a group of islands. The one we're on right now is called Avalon. What is the name of your country?"

"Gunnywapitat," she said solemnly. "It never snows there. And there aren't any tall folks. Or any short ones for that matter. Just me. Everyone else is an animal, except for Mr. Tumnus, who is a faun. Greek faun. Not Anglo-French."

 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
"Oh, so you do know about the French," Marcello said, sounding interested. He tiptoed across the kitchen and returned with two apple tarts. "So you're the only person like you?" he asked. "Would you like to see the snow?" he asked, as he plopped a tart down in front of her. "I hope it's all right for the apples to be inside the crust."

 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
She blew on the tart to cool it, then bit off the crispy end so that she could confirm that the inside contained neither fancy sauces nor runny eggs. "I just know that an Anglo-French fawn is a baby deer and a Greek faun is like a goat except that they can walk upright and they like sardines on toast." Suddenly she wilted a little. "I don't want to look at snow anymore," she said mournfully. "I just want to go home."

"All right," Marcello replied. "Tell me about it," he said. "About your home. What is it like?"

 Re: ACORN RUNS AMOK
"I told you. It's all animals, except for me, so they made me queen. Everybody loves me and does what I say--except for the bad guys, but we always go out and punish them. And we rob from the rich and give to the field mice. And Mr. Tumnus looks after me. When I was a baby, he took care of me all the time, but then I got big, and he gave me my own house so that I could have company over." She sighed wistfully.

"You have your own house? Marcello asked interestedly, as he munched on his tart. "What is it like? What color is it?"
