Davide went red. "I know." He replied. "Why does everyone think I wanted to change her? I didn't. I liked her. I wanted to sleep with her. I never had any expectation that would happen." He sighed. "I tried, and I tried and I tried to tell her that, but she heard that I just wanted to sleep with her." He shook his head. "I didn't ask to be turned Tuatha either." He added, defensively.

"I know you didn't, sweet-cakes," the woman said, poking her bottom lip out in sympathy. "But the point is that girl's stubborn as a bull and it's not doing either of you any good with you moping about spilled milk. It just makes you miserable and it makes her think you've got some weird fixation. Let it go. There's a lot of cute redheads in this joint. Ones who will give you the time of day. Like me," she added, bouncing cheerfully in place.

Davide was slightly distracted by the bouncing and then looked back at her face, smiling. "I'll take your word for that. What is it that you do when you're not being the Countess' godmother? Do you have lands?"

She lowered her eyelids, looking bored. "I don't have lands. I have time periods."

"Is that right?" He asked, interested. Then he glanced around, and in a quieter voice, continued; "I love what you've done with the place, but don't you think the style here is a little... behind?" Then he winked at her.

"Oh my god. Don't remind me. I know." She looked pained. "This is not my time period. This is an abomination. It should be burned down, except that they'll build something exactly like it on top of the ruins."

"They do enjoy doing that. Although their barrows beat any Aquitanian crypt I've seen." He glanced about for more food and drink. "Am I allowed to get you a drink and have you entertain me with all your opinions, then?" He asked, cheerfully.

The woman hooted with laughter. "Don't flirt with me, dear. I'll win. Horrid sweet fairy wine, then?"

He raised his brows. "Unless you have something better up your sleeve?" He replied, and looked a little sheepish. "I can't promise I won't flirt. Being charming comes too naturally to me."

"Being unctuous comes naturally for you, darling," she corrected nicely as she started in the direction of the nearest source of alcohol. "It's a side-effect of working for the Navy, like sunburn."
