Re: Happiness is for losers, 15th Equos, very late evening.
The youth smiled a bit, looking sidelong at Jochy, "So you knew me before, too, eh?" He shook his head a little, sighing and taking a look around the place, a part of him wondering if it had been there when he'd lived before. Four hundred years was a long damn time.
Something else was probably standing here then. Something older and grander and stranger.
Or maybe it was just a different-named bar.
"I... I suppose I do not know how else to take it. Perhaps I should be despairing of... this other life. And I have had a good one. Between Seamus and Mabhe and my cousins?" He could only shake his head before he turned to the barkeep and said in his lightly accented Tuathalli, "Two beers. Nothing weird in 'em, alright?" He smiled at the barkeep and rapped his knuckles twice on the bartop.

"Hah, you lost your accent" Jochy replied in fluent tuathalli, giving the young man a grin. "And yeah, I knew yer from before... met you... you were maybe a few years older than you are now? Not many. But no cause for despair. Life... changes. That's the way it goes. And nothing can take away the years yer had now if yer loved them. They'll always be there with you."

"Not to sound too cliche, hm?"
Seth looked at the man for a moment with a smile before shrugging and leaning back in his chair, resting the sole of one foot on one of the tables and pushing back a little, balancing on the back legs, "Seems that something could take them away. I mean, something already took away the years I'd lived before I lived 'em over again." He chuckled a bit at that.
"Only real question I have there is how annoyed at Morgan I should be. Finding this out from inference... Sometimes you'd rather people just told you things or had the sense to hide them better."

"Oh people suck at hiding things. Probably thought it was good for you, this life. Yer seem a damn sight happier than before, which aint surprising if yer actually have had a family that cared. Probably he didn't wanna screw that up. Honestly, I was wondering whether I should tell yer myself, but I like the truth a little bit too much. Even though telling it to people fuck them up all over again. And... well, yeah. But I think yer gonna remember this when yer turn back to yerself, the others have. I think. It's all terribly complicated. I just try not to think too hard about it." He grimaced a little and drank some of his beer.
"But there are a few things that might come back and bite yer in the arse if yer don't know them, and there are more than a few things that's gonna hurt like hell when yer find them out. It's a tough choice... but I doubt there's anybody around here that knows more about the person yer used to be than me. Morgan included."

The youth looked interested for a moment and, after taking a moment to sniff at his beer, he seemed to decide it was good and took the first sip. "I would rather know the truth. And would prefer to be told than have to piece it together because, I suppose, no one bothered to send notice around about me beforehand." He chuckled a little and gestured to Jochy. "We were friends, then. Spill it."

"Spill it." Jochy chuckled into his beer. "Damn I owe Mabhe for this, whatever she did to you, she did a great job." Oh that was something he wasn't gonna enjoy telling Seth.
But first things first.
"Okay, yer ain't that much older normally. Mid to late twenties. Yer a good mage, hell, yer a great mage even. Very talented. Managed to get yerself sort of apprenticed to one of the greatest magi around, which is good for you even if he's one of the biggest bastards around. And my father." That grimace was deep. "But yer wasn't very happy I suppose. The Crimson Order... ain't a very happy place. Yer old teacher... well, by the time he was done with yer, yer hands were in tatters and you had more hangups than me, which is saying a lot. Still, yer were a dreamer, he didn't manage to kill that. And you..." Jochy broke off, drinking depely from his beer.
"Yer ain't gonna like this" he warned.

"Yes," the youth said quietly before taking a big swig of his beer. "Yes, she really did."
Seth listened quietly, watching the man for a moment and chuckling. "Well, I am glad to see Morgan got me out when he did," the youth said sarcastically, trying to imagine even more scars on his hands. He snorted a bit, "I suppose that means Amadeo and my biological mother must have died when I was an Apprentice, then..." he mused before smirking a bit and looking over at Jochy.
"So I will not like it," he replied with a shrug. "I do not like many of the things that have happened of late. What will one more do?"

"I know that yer mother died when yer were a kid... Amadeo died... it must have been either when yer almost was out of yer apprenticeship, or right after. Because you were a fully fledge mage by the time I met you. And you had never met your father by then either, he didn't show up until much later. And yeah, the old you were pretty pissed at him for that." Jochy took a deep, deep breath and emptied his beer.
"Well, we weren't just friends. We were lovers."

"From a full family to barely half of one. It seems I am paring down as I move up." He shook his head with a scowl that was quite nearly bitter. "At least I will be a mage again if I ever am returned to my what was that?"
The youth blinked at Jochy a couple times before cracking half a smile. "You should not play with someone like that, Jochy." He took a sip of his beer, a half-smile on his face.

"I was a girl when we met, believe it or not." Jochy shrugged a little and looked down at his empty beer. "I kept trying to warn you about how fucked up the world was, because you were all starry eyed and convinced that everything was like in your books. You decided I was a damsel in distress, which to be fair I kinda was, because I wasn't a girl voluntarily. I found out that you hadn't even been kissed, one thing led to another, and... well, yer surprisingly charming for a bookish mage. When I eventually turned back into my true shape... we almost broke up. Still ain't sure what made yer changed yer mind and stick with me, but... yer did. Wasn't easy at first, but I suppose people can get used to weirder things."
