Jamilah entered Niabheara's tent cautiously. She was wearing her fortune-teller's outfit once more, but had removed anything that looked like it might jangle.

She hesitated briefly, looking down at Marcello and Niabheara's sleeping forms, but she knelt down by Marcello's side anyway.

"Marcello?" she hissed, keeping a wary eye on Niabheara. "Marcello!"

The man grunted, reaching up to rub his eyes-- and found himself entwined with the red-haired girl.

So he blinked, slowly, and when he was assured that she still slept and the voice was not coming from her, looked up. "Hmm?" he asked, still groggy. "Problem?"

Jamilah knotted a portion of her skirt around her forefingers. "Is it all right for you to be - touching her now, then?" she asked quietly, fixing her eyes on the young woman. "I mean, is she - all right?"

Marcello slowly slipped out of Niabheara's arms, turning to tuck the girl in as he sat. "I think it's over," he answered quietly. "And if it's not..." he shrugged. "If she's dying, I'd rather be here with her. But I went to Auberon. He...I think he's cured her."

He rubbed at his face, looking painfully tired. "How are you?"

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 12:18 AM
"Did you give the Queen back to him, then?" Jamilah asked, in a close approximation of a sharp whisper. She looked guilty as she transferred her attention from Niabheara to Marcello. "I'm sorry I woke you - I just didn't think about how tired you've been."

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 12:22 AM
Marcello blinked heavily, then shook his head, turning himself so he could keep a hand on Niabheara's hair. "It's all right," he answered. "I-- no, I told him he'd get the Queen back when I knew for certain Niabheara was cured. I--" He tilted his head, considering the girl. "Do you still want to leave as soon as possible?"

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 12:28 AM
"Yes," Jamilah said emphatically. "My mother will send my aunt Taghrid after me otherwise, and I think she's the only woman who could make a situation like this worse." She paused, unravelling the knot she had created in her skirt, and picking at a few loose threads. "Have I outstayed my welcome already, then? I changed clothes."

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 12:35 AM
Marcello smiled. "Yes," he answered cheerfully-- as cheerfully as he could. "I'm sending you away based on your terrible taste in clothes."

He rubbed at his eyes. "Can you keep a secret? I mean, other than one about you being an Oracle Priestess?"

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 12:40 AM
"It's my mother's taste in clothes, actually," Jamilah retorted, a little put out. "And of course I can keep a secret. I'm managing with that name one of yours, aren't I?"

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 12:42 AM
Marcello made a face. "Niabheara probably doesn't even know who Adonis is or why it's funny," he answered, gesturing for her to move forward. He lowered his voice, whispering directly into her ear.

"I need to take Niabheara away from here," he said quietly. "The only people I'd dare tell are you and Morgana."

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 12:50 AM
"Would this coincide with returning the queen?" Jamilah asked warily, matching his soft tones. "I mean - obviously it would be best to take her as far away as possible, but - where would you go?"

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 12:53 AM
"Italy," Marcello answered, looking down worriedly at Niabheara. "Eventually to Italy, if we can get that far. I'm going to talk to Morgana about a place to go first. I-- I'm worried about Morgana's family, if we do this. They'll go after them."

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 01:00 AM
Jamilah shrugged, tugging more loose threads free. "I think by this point, no matter what you do, there is somebody in danger. Morgana's family would come under fire at some point or another. Have you, ah, discussed this with Niabheara yet?"

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 01:04 AM
"It was her idea," Marcello answered, looking terribly relieved. "She asked me to get her away and not to tell anyone. I-- not that I'm complaining," he admitted. "I've been trying to tell her to come away since before this got so bad."

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 01:11 AM
"She probably didn't intend for you to tell me, then," Jamilah commented, looking up at him. "But I appreciate the warning - unless you need my help, and then I would feel honour-bound to remind you that my last attempt at travelling landed me in Auberon's palace. Just so you would be fully aware of what you would be letting yourselves in for."

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 01:13 AM
Marcello gave the girl a pointed look. "I wasn't asking you along for your travelling skills," he answered. "More for your kindness and compassion and perfect ladylike demeanor."

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 01:18 AM
"Or so you can have a target for your sarcasm?" she replied, raising her eyebrows at him. "Just for that, I'm determined to epitomise ladylike demeanour." To punctuate her sentence, she drew her shoulders back, raised her chin, and clasped her hands in front of her.

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 01:20 AM
"Beautiful," Marcello observed. "Better yet, why don't we leave you her to impersonate the Countess so no one notices she's missing?"

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 01:27 AM
Jamilah pulled a face at him. "I think you would probably do a better job of impersonating her than I would," she answered, glancing involuntarily down at the young woman. "Although I do excel at diplomacy, after all."

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 01:36 AM
"Oh, no, you've got the natural stubbornness and incontrovertibility already," Marcello informed the girl. He looked back at Niabheara when Jamilah did, brushing the sleeping girl's hair back, then back up to Jamilah. "You'll come with us?" he asked her hopefully. "I need to know you'll be all right."

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 01:49 AM
Jamilah was silent for a long moment, focusing on the tent wall, as though hoping it would provide the answer for her.

"That, I can do," she answered finally. "You won't have to put up with me for long, though - although, I seem to keep putting off returning to my search." She frowned, rubbing her hands together slowly. "I did mean to say thank you first. I suppose I do need to brush up on my manners."

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 01:54 AM
Marcello smiled. "I need to talk to Morgana first, but I'd rather leave as soon as she thinks is wise," he said to the girl. "If you-- ah, if you see her, could you tell her I'm back? And in here? I promised Niabheara I wouldn't leave," he explained sheepishly.

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 01:56 AM
"I can go and find her now, if you'd like?" Jamilah asked. "Is there anything else you need?"

Posted by: Marcello Basciano Dec 6 2007, 02:00 AM
"Food?" Marcello asked. "And dry clothes, if...if I even have any left?"

Posted by: Jamilah Ai'livahzi Dec 6 2007, 02:04 AM
"I'll be back as soon as I can, then," Jamilah answered, starting out of the tent. "You can go back to sleep now, if you like," she added generously.
