Lang smiled, and nodded. "All right." She agreed, easily, hoping the bard would figure out how to reach her first. "Do I get to ask what it is, exactly, hostages do?" She asked, pulling her dress down over her feet. "Do I just sit around and have you stare at me?"

Saorla gave Barbara a disbelieving look--what on earth do hostages usually do? Her lips pressed tight. "You are a prisoner of the house until such time as someone levies ransom for you," she said. "Although if you are soothly known to Laird Maitiu, his word is as good as a ransom to me. You can go as soon as he speaks for you."

"And then the wolves rip me to shreds?" She asked, dryly, and kept pressing. "And what does being a prisoner mean? Do I have to clean latrines, or something?"

"Of course not," Saorla shot back, insulted. "The Dire tracked their dead comrade back to you--or more specifically, this--" she flagged the pistol with an alarming lack of concern. "Would you prefer they tear you to pieces? I can call them back."
The two remaining wolves set up a low growl, eyes gleaming golden.

"Oh, ja, excuse me for being concerned that a Tuatha might not be straightforward." She replied, rolling her eyes. "I like being hostage, good neighbor." She said, glaring back at the wolves.
"And if you keep waving the gun like that, you'll kill someone." She told Saorla. Then she looked back at the wolves. "Are you wolves that are also people or just wolves?"

"They are also people," Saorla said, since wolves can't talk even if this is the Erins. "They are the Queen's own guard," she added, with justified pride, "or were, 'til her death. Now they serve Clann Oisin."

Lang stared at the wolves and then back at Saorla. She smiled. "Clann Oisin must be very powerful, then." She offered. "But why are they serving Clann Oisin? And why are we hiding in the woods?"

"Her Majesty placed them under orders to come to us after herself died." Saorla let out a small sigh. "We're are not hiding, we're--"
Another wolf flipped aside the green wall and trotted in, just ahead of man. With his black hair and pale complexion, slightly reddened by the cold, he might have been Saorla's twin. She at once abandoned Barbara and threw both arms around him. "By the gods! Where were you?"
He kissed her hair and pushed her gently away. "No word. I think we're going to have to turn back regardless. It's pure luck the countess didn't get this far." He looked over the woman's head at Barbara. "Who in sin is that?"

Barbara simply crossed her arms. "Obviously I'm your long lost cousin, come to visit." She replied. "The countess? Are we talking about Countess... Niall?" She asked.

Both of the pair blinked in union; they looked enough alike that the effect was unsettling. Suddenly the man grabbed Saorla by both shoulders and shook her. "Who--"
"She isn't anyone; let go of me!" She shoved him off. "She's a hostage. She killed one of the Dire. It was claim her or let them do it--and I was right to do it. She knows Maitiu the Raven."
