And pop goes the weasel, 6 Samon
Lang fired, but her bullet sped away, hitting nothing as, she was in the middle of nowhere. The sound of the shot echoed.
She holstered her gun and spun around, trying to see if there was something familiar. There wasn't, of course, it being the middle of nowhere. . "Matt? Matt? MAITIU!" She yelled.

Re: And pop goes the weasel, 6 Samon
The middle of nowhere was a very cold place. A fine silver scrim of frost lay on the ground. The fir trees were tall and bleak.
At the gun shot there was a small cry, like a diving hawk, then stillness again.
Not for long. A silver streak came from between the trees and buried itself in Barbara's upper arm: not an arrow, but a fine, white bolt with no head. It was no thicker than a haystraw, and like a haystraw, it was hollow. The puncture did not even bleed.

Barbara winced and looked down at the bolt, almost disbelieving. She dropped her gun, and tried to use her other hand to pull the bolt out. "What the hell?"

Re: And pop goes the weasel, 6 Samon
There was nothing. Then a shadow separated itself from between the firs: a tall woman in a dark blue, fur-lined cloak with the hood draw to her brow. Her face was as pale and blank as an alabaster statue, her eyes deep-set and heavily hooded. On her wrist she bore a crossbow so tiny it looked like a toy. "You are going to want an antidote," she said without inflection, but with a heavy Tuatha accent. "Best tell me who you are."

"An antidote?" Lang replied, deciding not to bend towards her gun. She swallowed. "Shit, I'm in the Erins, aren't I?" She asked, and let go of a breath, and shivered. "Barbara Lang. Not that you'd know me. I'm here by mistake." She offered, racking her brain. "Who are you?"

"I am the person who has the antidote," the woman replied in a perceptibly harder voice. "You would do well to be truthful with me. Who sent you?"

Lang looked askance at her, but decided to behave. "A tallfolk. A..." She searched for a word, given that the Tuatha woman wouldn't know 'professor'. "Wizard. Tallfolk wizard. A very evil bard, even. He did something awful, and he sent me here. I don't want to be here." She pointed out, and swallowed so her teeth wouldn't chatter. "I need to go back to the Mainland."

The woman's face remained blank, but one hand rose and brushed back the hood from her forehead. Her hair was nearly black and formed a sculpted coil at the nape of her neck. She gave a sharp whistle and a small half-circle of five wolves formed behind her. "Not twenty heartbeats ago a Dire dropped dead. Now you appear. If you wish to run, you may. No one will follow. But you will not see the morning. Who are you?"

Lang stared at the wolves, and then back at the woman, feeling a slight pang of jealousy at her hair.
"My name is Barbara Lang." She repeated, before she took a breath, watching it mist in the air. "I'm sorry. For your Dire, whatever that is. I was trying to shoot the wizard, and I came here. I didn't mean to hurt any of you." She paused, trying to think for a moment. "I'm not going to run, but are those wolves, or am I seeing things?"

"You are seeing things that are wolves." The wolves moved forward as a unit, one to either of Barbara's side. Then the woman stepped forward, pulling off one of her gloves. She reaced under her cloak, then held out a handful of what looked like dried, grey leaves to Barbara. "Chew those well, then spit out the pulp. You are in the hands of Clann Oisin. Who should we expect to claim you?"
