Re: The Case of the Invisible Strangler, 1 Samon, Night
Spider's face twitched when Barbara spoke Kullie's name. "Yes. Her again. Or just the ship, really, not her. There was something wrong with the ship, I kept smelling smoke, and no one listened to me, and I went to find out what was happening, and then I don't know. I think I woke up a little. Someone grabbed my shoulders and pulled me back. I thought it was still part of the dream. Then I don't remember anything else."

Lang nodded. "Ja, alright. It was smoking." She frowned, and tapped her foot. "Maybe it was... maybe one of Digiacomo's pirates came over." She admitted grudgingly. "That may be it. I can't think the Navy men would hurt one of their own and you."

Andre grimaced. "You didn't hear anything or see anything?" Andre asked. His voice grew quiet. "Spider. Judith says that this DiGiacomo fellow is working for Kullie's daughter. We need to be careful. I want you to stay with me, or with your father, or uncle, or Judith."

Judith came back in two steps ahead of another marine and the loblolly. It had been some trouble getting the marine to heed her, although this time it was not so much because she was a woman as it was that word was starting to get around that bad things were happening to marines around here. A set of manacles with the chain drawn short clinked at the man's waist.

It had been a long hard day for the loblolly boy. "Excuse me, sir," he said as he went around Andre to examine Spider. "Hard to see anything. That's a deep bruise. Turn your head side to side, miss."

Spider obediently turned her head side to side, then up and down, which set off another fit of coughing. "I am being careful," she said to Andre between trying to get her breath back.

Lang backed up. "What are the irons for?" She asked. "She was sleepwalking. She didn't see who did it."

"I mean more careful," Andre said, speaking quietly. "Lang, he...he hasn't put them on her," he pointed out, rubbing Spider's shoulder. "Sir, is there anything we can do to help? It seems like there's...some kind of serial attacker on board."

Re: The Case of the Invisible Strangler, 1 Samon, Night
The loblolly definitely looked in over his head on this one. He felt Spider's throat, closing his fingers over the corded knob of her larynx. "No compression. Swallow," he directed, and nodded when she did. "You can still speak. You're breathing just fine. The rope did not cut you, but that bruise is not going to be so pretty for a good long while. No food you need to chew for a few days. Have your husband here feed you clear broth. If you start tasting blood, or coughing blood, come to the infirmary right away."
He stepped away, and the marine stepped in and shut one of the cuffs around Spider's wrist.

"Huh? No." Spider backed away from Andre, the loblolly, and the approaching marine. "What are you doing? I didn't do anything!"
