The ship's cook, a rather burly Aquitainean, came roaring into the galley at the first call for help. "Saints, it's a little girl!" he said in Aquitainean. He approached Elaine. "What has happened?" |

"I don't-- I don't know!" she answered. Somebody-- something--tried to choke me," she finished, feeling around to try to find the end of the cord. "And threw something at me." She looked around for a culprit.

Whatever it was grabbed a wad of Elaine's hair and yanked. |

The cook, who still only had a vague idea of what was happening, reached for Elaine's arms to draw her back. "Look here, calm down. Let's see."
